Good day

Feb. 10th, 2007 10:48 pm
It's Parent's Weekend at Wright State, so my dad has been spending the weekend with me so he can participate in the events. I picked him up at the bus station last night, and we hung out for a little bit before going to bed.

We slept in a bit this morning, and then he helped me take care of a bunch of things that needed to be done around the house! First he put a new tire on the Mazda, then he jumped the Mazda and let it charge for most of the day (it had died because I forgot to start it every few days). Then he tried to warm the apartment by replacing the furnace filter and duct taping the open vent that lets so much cold air in. It's already warmer in the basement!

Mom picked us up at 4:30 and we went to dinner at Red Lobster. YUMMY! It was very crowded, probably because it was the weekend before Valentine's Day and it was right before the Wright State game. That's why we were there.

We got to the Nutter Center right before the game started. We had to walk a loooong way in the cold. Have I mentioned I'm sick of winter? So, so sick of winter.

When they were announcing the Wright State players, and the Wright State banners carriers were running all over the court and the cheerleaders were going crazy, and the fans were going crazy, and the fight song was playing, I admit I got a little choked up. I'm just so happy to have this opportunity to finish my education at a real university. I fucked up my opportunities at Indiana and UC, and then I lost my chance at court reporting because of my hands. I'm so grateful to be a part of the Wright State community, and I was happy to share the evening with my parents. They are a major reason why I'm back at school, and they are a huge part of my success.

My mom and dad love college basketball, and the game was arguably the best game in a long time. Wright State beat #10 nationally ranked Butler by 12 points. It was such an exciting game! We cheered heartily the whole time, and my parents got really into it. At the end of the game, the fans rushed the court in jubilation. I'm so glad we got to go! As we were leaving, we ran into my Literature professor, so I was able to introduce my parents to him.

Tomorrow morning we're going to a breakfast with the president. They'll be announcing the winner of the Parent of the Year. I nominated my mom for the award...I really hope she gets it! Keep your fingers crossed for her!!
