The spring quarter catalog finally came out, and I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to take.
I have to take Spanish 203 on MWF 8:30-9:35am and French 203 on MWF 9:45-10:50am. Non-negotiable.
I am also committed to teaching a Homeschool French class at Rosewood Arts Center four Wednesdays in....April, I want to say, from 12pm-1pm.
For that reason, I believe I will only take 12 credit hours spring quarter (what a relief from the 21 I took last spring!). So I need one more class. I am thinking of changing my major, so a lot of requirements I need for a Modern Language major I'm not sure if I'll need for a French/Spanish double major (long story, I'll explain after I speak with my advisor). But either way I'll definitely need to fulfill the research methods requirement, and that means either SOC 300 or COM 449.
SOC 300 has the better time slot: TR 2:15 - 3:55pm compared to TR 4:10-5:50pm. With the earlier time I could work both a morning 9-1:30 shift and an evening 5-9 shift. With the later class I could really only work 6:30-9, which is not preferred and would probably not be offered to me, which means I would never be offered work on Tuesday or Thursday nights.
But SOC 300 is a harder class and has a math prereq; algebra, actually.
estllechauvelin said she thought it was fairly easy and that the math wasn't too unbearable, and there's a chance that with my dad's help I might do all right. COM 449 is, I believe, the "cake" research methods course, the one they offer to us math-retarded fools who just need to fulfill the requirement ^_^ So the quandry is do I want to work harder and possibly not get a good grade but take the better time slot, or take the cake course and work less? Hmmmm...
The other options are LI 371, an introductory linguistics class that is required for ML majors; but I don't know if it's a requirement for just straight language majors. Either way, it would be interesting and it would fulfill my need for more 300+ level courses. However, it's offered MWF 11am-12:05pm. So four Wednesdays of the quarter I would either have to leave 35 minutes early or just skip alltogether.
Or MP 435, Gay Cinema. Interesting! But offered MW 2-5. Again we get into the work problem; I usually work 5-9 on Wednesdays. I couldn't get there till 5:30. Problem.
WMS 399 Psychology of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Lives sounds interesting as hell, but is outright rejected for its time slot: TR 4:10-5:50pm.
Oh, the quandry! I'd better suck it up and just make an appointment with my advisor, because right now I'm thinking of registering for BOTH SOC and COM just to get a look at their syllabi, and then dropping one or the other the first week.
